This quote caught my attention: "The NIV removes the “Word” from the trinity, as though Jesus is not God, and replaces it with “water”, as though water is saving. However, in several places, the rest of the scriptures clearly show that the “Word” is Jesus Christ and He has His proper place in the trinity. The NIV is proven wrong." With respect, I point out that all of the following quotes in the post, from the KJV, read exactly the same in the NIV - including the "gold standard one" oj John 1:1. With respect, the issue with 1 John 5:7-8 is not theological; that Jesus isn't the Word, and that the "evil" NIV removes it. (If true, why in just this verse and not in the others referred to?) That Jesus is the "Word" is fully established in both KJV and NIV. The issue is the manuscript evidence for this verse as it appears in the KJV.
